Meet the Co-Ministers

Diana_and_Bill

The Rev. Diana Heath and the Rev. Dr. Bill Metzger have both been ministers for over 25 years, in settled parish and accredited interim ministries, and as church consultants.

Bill has most recently served two years as interim minister of First Unitarian Church, Philadelphia, PA, which was the first church in America that included "Unitarian" in its name at its founding. (August 2007) He has previously served a settled ministry in Elgin, IL, and six other interim ministries. Prior to entering the ministry he was a newspaper editor, an antipoverty agency administrator, partner in an adult education firm, and an organizational consultant. He also was the founding editor of The Quest, a quarterly journal of religion, philosophy, and science.

He has an M.A. from the University of Chicago Divinity School and a D.Min. from Meadville/Lombard Theological School in Chicago.

Diana has served settled ministries in Rockford, IL; Manchester, CT; Cincinnati, OH, and Costa Mesa, CA. She has served eleven interim ministries, including four Texas churches, in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston (NASA), and Corpus Christi. She has just completed a one-year interim in suburban Bucks County, PA. (August 2007)

She has an M.Th. from Perkins School of Theology, and pursued doctoral studies in congregational identity and church consulting at Hartford Seminary, CT. She has also studied philosophy, science, and religion at the postgraduate level at University College, Oxford, England, became a clinical member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and a member of IRAS (The Institute for Religion in an Age of Science).

Diana is joyful to return to Texas after serving congregations as far flung as New Orleans, Delaware, Washington State, and Pasadena, CA. Bill is excited at the prospect of living in the North Texas area, and all Denton has to offer.

Bill and Diana were married July 2, 2006 in Dallas, each after about a decade of widowhood. He has a son and daughter and three grandsons; she has four daughters and 12 grandchildren. In addition to ministry, Bill’s interests include reading, films, art and jazz. Diana’s interests range from traveling and French cuisine (which she taught for many years) to films and photographing faces. She was born in Hollywood, CA, but got to Texas as soon as she could. Bill hails from South Dakota but lived in Milwaukee for a number of years, before beginning his ministerial journey.

They look forward to meeting all the members and friends with great zest and a sincere desire to serve DUUF.
