Denton Community Food Center

Dorothy Van Dyck, a longtime member and friend of DUUF, is a volunteer and Board member of the Denton Community Food Center. A teacher and counselor, she also has a long history of community service, from League of Women Voters to the State School to Friends of the Family and more. DUUF Members and Friends Diana Campbell and Suzanne Blalock also speak to the importance of the food center. Please bring basic food items for an ongoing special collection.

Please bring unopened, unexpired cans and boxes of basic food, not fancy food for our special collection for the Food Center. Examples: beans, rice, vegetables, fruit, tuna, etc.

Basic food items are used in packing two units of food, which every client gets.

    Basic canned items:
    soup (11, 12 oz)
    fruit (15 oz, 30 oz)
green beans, peas, corn (14 oz)
    tuna (6, 12 oz)
    beans (15 oz)
    tomatoes, tomato sauce (15 oz)

    Basic dry items:
    Rice (1 pound)
    boxed macaroni & cheese
    Dried beans (1 pound)
    spaghetti (1 pound)
    Raisons

Other food items are “choice items” for clients:
    cereal
    sugar
    cooking oil
    coffee
    peanut butter
canned meat – chicken, beef stew, ham, corn beef, turkey, pasta with meat

Please, no exotic or luxury items. (No one seems to want raspberry chocolate tea, or the butter pecan tea.)

Pumpkin, sweet potatoes, cranberry anything are not popular choice items. The Food Center cannot accept home canned items.
